Airport "Screenings:" Are They Enough?

As many of us know by now, several major airports in the United Stated (5 to be exact), have declared that they will start screening passengers arriving from the ebola effected areas. They will do this by monitoring temperatures and by asking questions. Is this enough though? Personally I believe that we should stop all flights from those effected areas until we have this disease under control. The best way to stop an outbreak is to start at ground zero. Nigeria recently has declared that it is virus free and they attribute their success to closing its borders to anyone traveling from the effected counties. I'm not saying that we should close our borders all together, but when it comes to people traveling from the effected countries, we should not allow them to step foot on a plane until they have been declared virus free. Let me know what you all think.

  1. I agree that such a measure may need to be implemented if the outbreak continues to find its way into the US. However, unlike many of the African countries surrounding the major effected areas, the US does not have as many documented cases of he virus. We have had only a handful of actual cases, where a patient was then flown to a secure facility and quarantined accordingly while awaiting and receiving treatment. With that said, given the current situation here in America, I do not feel i completely necessary to close of all travel just yet. The screenings in place serve the purpose of catching anyone who may either board or enter the country, that may have contracted the virus. If they are found to have the virus then they will be dealt with appropriately. So unless we have a massive influx of travel to and from said effected areas and or have a major increase in the amount of travelers who are found to have the virus in the screenings, then a complete shut off of travel from those areas is not necessary at this time.
